PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project is intended to acquire the parameters of a generator/ transformer such as current, voltage and temperature using the sensing devices like current transformer, potential transformer and temperature sensor, respectively; and, to monitor them from a remote location using Zigbee wireless communication.

The proposed system consists of two blocks: transmitter and receiver block; both use a microcontroller of 8051 family and a rectified power supply. This project consists of XBEE transceiver module operating at 2.4 GHz for communication, which is interfaced to the microcontroller through Tx and Rx pins at transmitting and receiving end, respectively.

The 3 sensors are interfaced to the microcontroller at the transmitter end through analog to digital converter (ADC) for monitoring the parameters of the transformer. The loads are controlled by  relays which are interfaced to the microcontroller at the receiver end through  relay driver. Avoice module is interfaced with the microcontroller at the receiver end to alert the user with  user-recorded voice from the audio control board. A LCD is interfaced to the microcontroller for displaying the information. The receiver unit is connected to the computer (PC) through a level shifter and serial cable for making the information visible on GUI mode.

Three sensors are fixed at the transmitter end with a certain range of each parameter and if these parameters exceed the fixed limits, then the transmitter sends a signal to the receiving end by the XBEE transceiver connected to the microcontroller to switch an warning load using a relay and alerts the user through a voice module. The Display displays the message on an LCD display.
