PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main concept of this project is to achieve and control real-time data remotely through a wireless communication from the control room for large-scale industries.

Many processes followed in large scale industries, monitoring and controlling all the processes at a time is not possible manually. It is achieved by adopting technology like SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition).

For achieving this real-time scenario, a temperature-logging system for a remote plant operation is taken. In this system, temperature sensors are interfaced to the 8051 microcontroller with the help of one 8-channel-ADC device where in the temperature sensors collect the data and send it to the microcontroller.  The heaters (shown as lamps) are connected to relay contacts corresponding to their sensors which are controlled by the relay-driver IC.Onepair of RF transceivers are connected to this system and to the computer for bidirectional communication. A PC is engaged having a GUI mode for interactive action by the operator.

Whenever the temperature of the sensor increases froma set point of the GUI, the microcontroller sends commands wirelessly to the corresponding relay. The relay is made to switch on or off the heater (a lamp load) tomaintain a set temperature.  High-limit and low-limit features are available for generating a visual alarm on the PC in the event of any abnormal situation. 

At the front end, “DAQ System” software is loaded to the computer which takes sensor values and displays them in front of the panel and also logs them in a database.  The software has the provision forsetting the sensor parameters such as set point, low limit and high limit on the computer screen.

Hence, the large scale industrial plants control many processes with more accuracy and better safety using wireless SCADA. Adopting such a technology will save both money and time.

NOTE: This project is tested on Windows XP operating system. For other operating system, please copy the relevant files from any XP system as explained in the net.
