PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The scrolling display board is a common display today for shopping malls, railway stations, colleges, etc., as an effective mode of displaying information for the masses. However, it is not a flexible option for updating messages instantly. This particular project deals with an advanced wireless notice board.

The main goal of this project is to design a display system that displays latest information on the notice board remotely through a user’s mobile phone for sending message which is then received by the SIM loaded GSM modem at the receiver unit.

The proposed system uses a microcontroller of the 8051 family and a rectified power supply. In this system, a GSM modem is interfaced to the microcontroller with the help of a level shifter through a serial cable. A16*2 LCD display is connected to the microcontroller for displaying the information.

A user can call to the GSM modem attached to this system; the microcontroller stores this number to get the information from the user. Upon receiving the message, the microcontroller replaces the new information on the LCD display by replacing old one.

This project in future can be implemented by providing a message storage facility by non-volatile memory, i.e., EEPROM attached to the microcontroller for retrieval of old messages if required. It can also be expanded to a large LCD screen.
