PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main goal of this project is to develop a vehicle-tracking system using a GPS module in order to get the exact location of any vehicle and to send the data pertaining to the location to a concerned authority through SMS by using GMS technology.

This project uses a microcontroller of the 8051 family and a rectified power supply.  In this system, the GPS and GSM modem are interfaced to the microcontroller with the MAX-232 device for communication with the vehicle.  A 16*2 LCD display is interfaced to the microcontroller for displaying the information. A push-button switch is used to store the authorized number.

The GPS modem gets the vehicle location in the form of longitude and latitude, which is then sent to the microcontroller. The microcontroller processes the location details got from the GPS and sends them to a concerned authority by an SMS through the GSM modem at periodical intervals set by the user. The sending and receiving information is displayed on the LCD. This technology is immensely useful for the people who keenly want to track their vehicles.

This project in future can be enhanced by making an arrangement to stop the vehicle's ignition remotely from the owner's mobile through a provision of sending an SMS in case of the vehicle theft.
