PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main goal of this project is to control special  industrial loads using atouchscreen switching system instead of conventional switches that producedangerous sparks.

The proposed system uses a microcontroller of the 8051 familyand rectified-power supply. The commands are sentfromthe touchscreen, which is interfaced to the microcontroller. The electrical loads are controlled by the TRIAC device which are connected to the microcontroller with  Opto-isolators to provide isolation from the controlling section.

The loads are controlled by the touchscreenup on entering the corresponding commands from it.Whenever a user touches the screen, the respective signal is given to the microcontroller. The microcontroller compares this data with the stored data,and then delivers the corresponding signal to switch the load on.

This project in future can be enhanced by using RF technology with a touch panel, which is connected to an RF transmitter.The loads can be switched on wirelessly.

Q & A
Q:  Why is TRIAC preferred over a relay?
A:  TRIAC is a long life semiconductor switch as compared to relay which is electromagnetic type having contact pitting problem and low life. Hence TRIAC is preferred.
Q:  Is any Thyristor used in this project?
A:  Yes TRIAC,BT136 is used.
Q:  Can one use any load instead of lamp?
A:  Yes loads up to 200 W each can be used.
Q:  What is the touch screen model used?
A:  The touch screen model used is TFT 3x3.
