PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main scope of this project is to develop a wireless-technology-based vehicle theft information system to provide security for vehicles from thieves.

Now-a-days vehicle thefts are increasing at a rapid pace, and therefore, security has become a very crucial aspect for vehicles and other transportation systems vulnerable to thefts. In this proposed system, if someone tries to steal a vehicle, the information pertaining to the concerned vehicle is sent to the owner of the vehicle by SMS through GSM technology. An added advantage of this project is that the owner can send back the SMS, which will disable the ignition of the vehicle.

This particular project uses a microcontroller of the 8051 family and a rectified power supply. The GSM modem is interfaced to the microcontroller with the help of a MAX-232 device for establishing communication with the vehicle.A relay is controlled by a relay driver IC which is connected to the microcontroller. In this system, for indication purpose, instead of an engine a lamp is connected to the relay contracts.

If anyone tries to steal the vehicle with this system, this system's circuitry generates an interrupt, which is sent to the programmable microcontroller that stores owner number upon a missed call from the owner for the first time. The microcontroller sends the stolen information to the owner by an SMS through a GSM modem. The owner can immediately send back an SMS to the GSM modem, forcing the system to stop the engine of the vehicle immediately.

The microcontroller gives controlling instructions to the relay driver to trip the relay that disconnects the lamp, used inplace of the engine – for practical demonstration purpose.
This project in future can be enhanced by integrating a GPS system, which will give the exact position of the vehicle in terms of its latitude and longitude values.
