PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The goal of this project is to design an automatic sun-tracking system for conversion of maximum solar energy at all the time of the daylight.

The solar panel has been used increasingly in recent years to convert the solar energy to electrical energy. Since the sun is moving from east to west, so it is not possible to generate maximum power at one position. So, this system is proposed to produce the maximum power by aligning the solar panel always at maximum incidence.

The proposed system uses a microcontroller of 8051 family and a power supply.  The stepper motor interfaced to the microcontroller through a motor driver IC. A solar panel is mounted on the stepper motor to capture the sun light.

The solar tracking movement is achieved by attaching the solar panel to the stepper motor such that the panel maintains its face always perpendicular to the sun to generate maximum energy. This operation is performed by programming a microcontroller to deliver stepped pulses in periodical time intervals from morning to evening instead of simple light sensing, for the stepper motor to rotate the mounted panel to  desired position always.

This concept in future can be implemented by using an RTC (Real-Time Clock) to follow the Sun. This helps in maintaining the required position of the panel even if the power is interrupted for some time.

Q & A
Q:  Will you provide solar plate in this kit?
A:  Yes we provide the solar plate along with the project, but is has limitations.
Q:  Whether solar panel is included or not?
A:  Yes solar panel ( 3V, 1.5W) is included along with the project
Q:  Is this project using any light sensor for tracking the sun?
A:  Using Photo diode/ LDR light sensing method is too primitive and goes erratic in cloudy and dusty time. We provide better concept in time division mode for 12 hours in steps for tracking the sun in day time and rest 12 hours of the night to trace back to the start. This is highly reliable.
Q:  Which microcontroller is used in this project?
A:  A 40 pin 8051 microcontroller is used in this project.
