PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main objective of this project is to develop a circuit that can be used to save power automatically by switching the lights on or off ,using light-dependent sensors. As lights will be switched on at the dusk and switched off at the dawn time, automatically, this system is capable of avoiding human intervention and thus saves energy and manpower.

This project is designed with a 555 timer that operates in bistable mode. In this system, a LDR sensor is used for observing the sun light. During the presence of light, the resistance of the LDR becomes low.

Therefore, the voltage drop across it will be low. While the night  occurs or the dusk approaches, the resistance of the LDR increases to make the voltage to go below 0.6V. These outputs are fed to a 555 timer, which switches on light during sunset time (dusk) and switches off the light at sun rise time ( dawn) using a TRIAC.
