PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The goal of this project is to calculate the stamp value based on the  weight of the post . It can be implemented in the post office for the posts meant to be transported.

Normal weighing machines are not applicable in the post offices as the weight ranges that they usually come with are of very high value – kilograms  and above. But, in post offices, weights are usually measured in  grams and above and the tariff rates are fixed accordingly.  The proposed system is intended to measure the precise weight of the parcels in grams by an electronic weighing  scale.

The  proposed system uses a microcontroller of the 8051 family and a rectified-power supply.  In this system, a spring-loaded-variable resistor acts as a weight sensor which is interfaced to the microcontroller through an analog to digital converter (ADC). This system uses a 16*2 LCD interfaced to the microcontroller  for displaying information.

This system using a weight sensor from a spring-loaded-variable resistor determines the weight of the particle letter placed on it. And then it sends this data , which proceeds to the microcontroller through an ADC to generate an appropriate weight as per the program. The LCD attached to the system displays the information.

The future scope of this project can be improved by integrating a mini printer and EEPROM with this system, which could be used for printing the value of the stamp for franking machines and for storing the price details corresponding to the weight.
