PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main intention of this project is to provide security over a certain area in an organization to allow only authenticated persons with an RFID tag to access that area. The security of any organization is a main priority for protecting physical property and also for the intellectual property.

This system works with the 8051 family microcontroller. The project uses an RFID reader, which is directly interfaced to the microcontroller to read the data from the tag. The load is controlled by the relay, which is interfaced to the microcontroller through a relay driver. The predefined information is displayed on the 16*2 LCD display, which is connected to the microcontroller.

 RFID tag contains an integrated circuit, which is used for storing and processing the information by modulating and demodulating signals transmitted. When the RFID is swiped on the reader, the reader scans the data present in the tag and sends it to the microcontroller. The microcontroller compares this information with the stored data, and, if it finds a matche, then t iturns the load on by the relay. In this system, the lamp is used as an indication. If a valid card is swiped, then the system displays the message ‘authorized’ on the LCD display.

This project in future can be implemented by interfacing it with GSM technology. In case of any attempt of unauthorized access, security personnel are intimated through an SMS. It can also be interfaced with a finger-print module to reduce the drawbacks of RFID system, i.e., exchanging RFID tags.

Q:  What is RFID?
A:  RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification Device. It is a technology based identification system using tags to identify objects.
Q:  What is RFID card?
A:  RFID card is an accessory which has got a coil and a chip for the reader for data communication. While it is placed on the RFID reader device, it gets induced power from the reader and then the data present in the card is serially transmitted to the receiver.
Q:  Which type of relay is being used here?
A:  A 12V single contact relay is being used here in this project.
Q:  Is it possible to replace the existing load by a lamp?
A:  Yes, it is possible to replace the load by lamp, but limited to 200 W.
