PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main concept of this project is to control domestic appliances remotely by using Android-OS-based smartphones with an Android application. This is an advanced technology in the home automation and, therefore, homes are getting smarter nowadays.

Nowadays the conventional wall switches are located in different parts of the house and to switch on or off such switches, they need mechanical pressing to turn the loads on or off. It becomes very difficult for the elderly or physically handicapped people. The proposed system is enhanced to control domestic appliances through an Android application of a smartphone or tablet phones by means of entering the selected number for corresponding load.

The proposed system uses an 8051family microcontroller and a rectified power supply. A Bluetooth is interfaced to the microcontroller using Rx and Tx pins for communication. The electrical loads are controlled by a relay which is connected to the microcontroller through a relay driver IC.

Once a user connects the Android application device to this system through the Bluetooth, then the user can send the control signals through the Bluetooth attached with this system. The user can enter a selected option on the Android application through GUI for the corresponding loads, and then, the data is sent to the microcontroller. The received data is compared with the stored data in the microcontroller and, if it is matched, then the microcontroller performs corresponding operation.
