PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project is designed to control the electrical load for multiple number of times as per the requirement using a microcontroller.

The conventional system of operating electrical loads manually requires human involvement wherein a person needs to go there and press the switch to turn the loads on or off correspondingly. The proposed system is enhanced to control the electrical load by the real time clock (RTC) to keep a track of the time to switch on or off the load accordingly.

The proposed system uses a microcontroller of the 8051 family and a rectified power supply. The real time clock (RTC) is interfaced to the microcontroller for maintaining an accurate time. A matrix keypad is used for storing the information. The loads are controlled by a relay-driver IC, which is connected to the microcontroller. A 7-segment display is interfaced to the microcontroller for displaying the time.

This system allows a user to enter the prescribed timings at which the user wants to switch the load as per the requirement through the keypad. Such type of data is stored in the microcontroller. The microcontroller continuously reads the time from the RTC. Whenever the time is matched to the stored time, then the microcontroller gives commands to corresponding relay to turn on or off the load as per the program and also displays the time on the 7-segment display. Multiple on or off time entry is the biggest advantage in this project.

The project in future can be enhanced by interfacing a GSM modem to the existing project so that the complete control of the load can be achieved by sending an SMS to the control unit.
