PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main concept of this project is to design a pre-stampede monitoring system to avoid stampede in a large crowd through a buzzer notification with a number of switches activated by the pressure in that path.

During large public gatherings such as political rallies, religious sermons, concerts, and during pilgrims' journey etc., the chances of stampede may arise due to various reasons. This proposed system is enhanced to give a warning to the people in a public place in advance if there happens to be a chance of stampede.

The proposed system uses a microcontroller of the 8051 family and a rectified power supply. In this system, the numbers of switches are arranged in the form of rows and columns instead of sensors for detecting stampede. Warning is indicated by a buzzer connected to the microcontroller with the help of a transistor. One 16x2 LCD display is interfaced to the microcontroller for displaying the information.

When a certain number of switches pressed in the path exceed the predefined number, then the microcontroller generates an output logic to switch on the buzzer, which alerts the authorities about a possible stampede. The possible warning information and updated status is also gets displayed on the LCD duly interfaced to the microcontroller.

This project in future can be enhanced by interfacing a GSM modem to the microcontroller so that a warning message is sent to the concerned authorities via SMS.
