PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project is intended to design and construct a long-range FM transmitter. This is actualized to know the relationship of carrier frequency, modulation frequency to efficiency and bandwidth. An FM transmitter with three RF stages incorporates an audio preamplifier for a better modulation. It has an output power of 1 Watt, and works out 9V to 12 DC, which makes it easily portable. It is an ideal project for a beginner who wishes to get start in the fascinating world of FM broadcasting.       

As it has already been mentioned that the transmitted signal is a Frequency Modulated (FM) one which means that the carrier’s amplitude stays constant and its frequency varies according to the amplitude variations of the audio signal. When the input signal’s amplitude increases (during the positive half cycles), the frequency of the carrier also increases. On the other hand, when the input signal decreases in amplitude (negative half-cycle or no signal), then the carrier frequency decreases accordingly.

 It is also possible to use an audio mixer in the input for more professional results. By using a Yagi antenna at both the transmitter and receiver ends looking each other in a line of sight distance, the range can be up to 5 KM. The Yagi antenna being very big, the design and fabrication details can only be provided but not supplied..

This concept can be extended and implemented in colleges or universities, wherein the latest happenings in a college can be made known to the students by tuning to the frequency using an FM receiver.

 

Note: - The project is supplied with a stick antenna. However, a Yagi antenna according to the design supplied can be assembled by the user[1].
