PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main objective of this project is to develop a robot that follows a specific path, by using IR sensors, consisting of black lines on a white surface. The line follower robot is useful in many places like warehouses, industries, stores, etc., where it follows a dedicated path to do critical operations. This proposed system of a line-following robot fulfills the desired functionality, and demonstrates the working of it.

The proposed system uses a microcontroller of the 8051 family and a battery for power source. The IR sensor is interfaced to the microcontroller for detecting the path. The motors are controlled by the motor driver IC based on the commands from the microcontroller.

The sensors guide the robot to follow a specific path by giving appropriate signals to the microcontrollers. Next,  the microcontroller takes a proper action to drive the motor by the motor driver IC according to the program written on it.

The future scope of this project can be implemented by adding more advanced sensors to it. This will add more features to the existing project. For example, the usage of ultrasonic sensors, in addition to helping the robot to detect any obstacle in front of it, help making the robot take appropriate action.
