PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main intention of this project is to control home appliaces by just sending an SMS to the device and also to receive the status of the load by SMS acknowledgement using a GSM modem. This system is very convenient for any user as they can control their house loads any time and from any place in the world. For example, they can switch on the AC while travelling by using this system.

The proposed system uses a microcontroller of the 8051 family and a rectified-power supply. In this system, the GSM modem is interfaced to the microcontroller through a level shifter and serial cable for communication. The loads are controlled by the relay driver, which is interfaced to the microcontroller. The load status is displayed on the LCD, which is connected to the microcontroller.

The user can send the respective commands from his mobile phone to the GSM modem attached to this system. The modem receives the message and sends it to the microcontroller. Then the microcontroller delivers the output based on the program to activate the relay to control the corresponding home appliances and also give an acknowledgement to the user about the status of the load on demand. All the status can also be seen on the LCD.

Q:  How can I feed the mobile number?
A:  By giving a missed call to the SIM number of the GSM interfaced to the controller, one can feed the mobile number.
Q:  Can I replace lamp with any load?
A:  Yes, any electrical load up to 200W can be used.
