PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main intention of this project is to control a dish antenna position remotely by using a conventional TV remote for receiving the typical broadcast signals from the satellite.

The dish position, i.e., tuning, is very important for getting the standard-broadcast signals from the satellite. The dish must be pointed at a correct angle to get the strongest signal possible. If the dish position is adjusted manually, one cannot direct the dish towards the best possible position. This proposed system is intended to adjust the dish position through a simple TV remote by pressing the buttons corresponding to the direction of the dish position.

The proposed system uses a microcontroller of the 8051 family and a rectified power supply. In this system, an IR receiver (TSOP) is interfaced to the microcontroller for receiving the modulated signals from the TV remote. Two motors are controlled by the motor driver which is connected to the microcontroller.

The dish ( adummy one ) position is controlled by a TV remote, wherein the commands (coded infrared data) sent by the transmitter are located in the TV remote. The TSOP receives these commands and sends them to the pre-programmed microcontroller, where the received data (RC5 based coded data) is compared to the stored data. If it is matched, then the microcontroller releases corresponding signals to control the dish position in different directions like forward, backward, up and down, etc.

This project in future can be enhanced by using an RF control, instead of IR, which doesn’t require the line of sight communication.
