PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main intention of this project is to measure the liquid or water level present in a tank without any contact with the liquid using an ultrasonic sensor which is placed at the opposite face of a tank at a few cm level of it.

The proposed system uses a microcontroller of the 8051 family and a rectified power supply. In this system, the ultrasonic sensor is connected to the serial port of the microcontroller for finding the distance of the liquid level in cm. A lamp is controlled by a relay contact, in place of a motor, which is connected to the microcontroller through a MOSFET and transistor devices.

Whenever the liquid level changes in the tank, the ultrasonic sensor measures the level distance in fixed cm. If the liquid level is decreased below the set point, the motor is switched on and the liquid level reaches above the set point, and then the motor turns off by the relay mechanism once the level reaches to the maximum point. The whole system is controlled by the microcontroller.

Q:  Is there any specific limit for pump to switch on and off?
A:  Yes, the motor for the pump will be switched off for liquid level from 0 to 30cm and switched on for liquid level below 30cm.
Q:  How liquid level is measured?
A:  Liquid level is measured using ultrasonic detection technique by sensing the reflected ultrasonic signal.
Q:  What is the frequency in it operates?
A:  The system works at a frequency of 40 KHz.
Q:  Till how much distance does the ultrasonic sensor senses?
A:  It senses distance till 250cm
