PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The development of wireless patient monitoring system has been quite intensive since the past decade. Hence, in the present study, there is a new approach of wireless patient monitoring system. Statistics reveal that every minute a life is lost across the globe, and, in India, everyday many lives are affected by health problems. This is due to the fact that many patients don't get timely and proper help.

The aim of this system is to monitor the temperature of a patient’s body, and display the same to the doctor through RF communication system. This project is proposed as a prototype to minimize the power consumption and the costing.

Nowadays monitoring of patient’s body temperature in hospitals is mandatory, which is a routine, but tedious method. In order to make this easy and to reduce manpower, the remote monitoring system is very useful.In this proposed system, the transmitting module continuously reads patient’s body temperature through a digital temperature sensor, and displays it on the LCD screen and sends it to the microcontroller, which then transmits the encoded serial data over the air by RF (radio frequency) through an RF module.At the receiving end, a receiver is used to receive the data, decode it and feed it to another microcontroller, which then displays the data on an LCD screen. The receiver module is kept in the doctor’s chamber to continuously display the patient’s body temperature wirelessly.

The power supply consists of a step-down transformer 230/12V, which steps-down the voltage to 12V AC. This is converted to DC using a Bridge rectifier. The ripples are removed using a capacitive filter, and it is then regulated to +5V using a voltage regulator 7805, which is required for the operation of the microcontroller and other components.

The scope of this project in future can be heightened by adding a provision for sensing and displaying other vital statistics of a patient like blood pressure, pulse rate, etc. This system's capabilities can also be improved by creating a warning signal if the parameters cross the safe limits of patient’s parameters.

A:  RF range is about 50 meters.

A:  Yes it is possible to transmit the parameters like blood pressure, Heart beat rate etc. with appropriate sensor interface.
