PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main goal of this project is to provide security to malls, banks, roads and offices by using a surveillant camera panning system to capture the visuals continuously in all directions through a personal computer (PC).

This system is used in places like roads, shops and colleges to capture visuals for monitoring purpose. In case of robbery, the recorded video or visuals may provide some clues pertaining to the heist. Basically, these surveillance cameras are fixed devices, and therefore, a 360 degree coverage is not possible with such systems. However, a 270 degree coverage is possible with these cameras.

The proposed system uses an 8051 family microcontroller and a rectified power supply. The camera (not supplied) is required to be mounted on a DC motor which is interfaced to the microcontroller with the help of a motor driver. This system is connected to the personal computer through a serial cable with a level shifter IC.

Once the commands are sent from the personal computer (PC) to the microcontroller through the hyper terminal with a level shifter IC, the microcontroller receives this data and compares them with the predefined data and generates corresponding signals to activate the motor driver to drive it at the desired speed.

This project in future can be implemented by interfacing it with a tilt arrangement for up and down movement besides the 270 degree pan movement. It could also be wirelessly controlled (using RF technology) for manually adjusting the camera movement or stopping the panning movement if desired with an RF remote.

NOTE: The project works only on operating systems with a hyper terminal (E.g. Windows XP) and the computer must have an RS232 serial port.

A:  One can control the speed through hyper terminal software by entering any number from one to five.
