PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main objective of this project is to designand operate an automatic electrical bell for a number of times to indicate the completion of a period in an institution with respect to time.

A bell is a percussion instrument used in schools, industries and other business places involving a human labor to operate manually. This proposed system is achieved to control the bell automatically by areal-time clock (RTC) to keep a track of the time, and thus, to switch on/off the loads accordingly.

This project uses a microcontroller of the 8051 family and a rectified power supply. Here the real time clock (RTC) interfaces to the microcontroller to provide a precise time and date. A matrix keypad is connected to the microcontroller for entering the time. A seven-segment display is interfaced to the microcontroller to display the time and electric bell is connected to the relay contacts.

We can set the timings of the bell through a keypad, and then store it in the microcontroller with a process. When the set timing is equal to the real time, then the microcontroller gives commands to the corresponding relay to turn on/off the as per the program.

This project in future can be enhanced by interfacing a GSM modem to the existing project so that the complete control of the bell can be done by sending an SMS to the control unit.
