PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main objective of this poject is to design and demonstrate  an  auto-metro train that can be started and then be stopped automatically  at the stations using IR sensors, besides provideing automatic  opening of doors by  sensors with a time limit.   

The proposed system uses a microcontroller of the 8051 family and a  battery for power source. Four IR sensors are interfaced to the microcontroller, wherein  two IR sensors are used to demonstrate  two stations and the other two are used to control the door. Three motors are interfaced with the microcontroller through a motor-driver IC wherein two motors are used to control the movement of the train and the other one is used for controlling the door. A buzzer is used to alert the users, which is interfaced to the microcontroller. A set of 7-segment display is interfaced to the microcontroller to display the number count.

Whenever the train arrives at the station it stops automatically triggered by the IR sensors. Then,  the door opens automatically, such that the passengers can get inside the train. Thereafter the door closes after a pre-se time as per the controller program. It also counts the number of passengers leaving and entering the train by sensing the IR interruption of the sensors and displays that on the 7-segment display.

This project in future can be enhanced by making it more advanced by displaying the status of the train on a LCD screen, which is due for arrival and departure for the convenience of the waiting passengers.
