PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main intention of this project is to implement an auto intensity controlof the LED based streetlight system using ARM Cortex Processor. As traffic decreases slowly in late-night hours the intensity is reduced progressively until morning to save energy .Besides that, the street lights are switchedon at the dusk and then switchedoff at the dawn automatically. This process repeats every day.

The high intensity discharge lamps (HID) mostly used in urban streetlights can not be controlled for their light intensity. On the other hand, LED lights are the future of lighting due to their low energy consumption and longer life. Due to this reason they are fast replacing conventional lights. Moreover, in LED, light intensity control is possible by the pulse width modulation.

This proposed system uses an ARM cortex processor of the STM32 family and a battery for power supply. A string of the LEDs are interfaced to the ARM cortex processor with the MOSFET device.

The intensity control of the LED light is possible by varying the duty cycles from a DC source. A programmed ARM cortex MCU is engaged to provide different intensities at different times of the night using PWM technique. A charge controller is used for protecting the battery from overload and deep-discharge protection.

This concept in prospect can be enhanced by integrating it with the solar panel, which converts the solar intensity into electrical energy, and it is used to feed up the highway lights.
