PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main objective of this project is to control thespeed of aninduction motor with Android application by applyingthe voltage applied to it to control the load such as fans. It is a home automation application which controls the speed of the fan remotely and this remote operation is achieved by any smart phone or tablet havingAndroid OS.

The proposed system uses a microcontrollerof the 8051family and arectified power supply.  In this system, the op-amp is used as a comparator for finding zero crossing pulses of the voltage.In this system, a lamp is controlled by aTRIACin place of induction motor which is connected to the microcontroller with the helpof Opto-isolator. The isolator is used for isolating the loads from the microcontroller low voltage circuit. A Bluetooth is interfaced to the microcontroller for establishing communication. A 7-segment display is interfaced to the microcontroller for displaying the given information. 

The speed control of the  motor is achieved by varying the trigger pulses provided by the microcontroller. Once a communication is established from the user phone through the Bluetooth attached to this system, it can then send the desired trigger pulses to the triacfrom Android application. The microcontroller receives a command on percentage of power and, after that, delivers the desired output to switch the induction motor as the corresponding speed and alsodisplaying on the 7-segment display. The induction motor is replaced by a lamp whose varrying intensity illustrates the changing power to the motor.

The future scope of this project can be improved by adding more outputs from the microcontroller feeding relay drivers to switch on/off the domestic loads together with the speed control of the fan.
